We have all encountered the business that sets up a website, then goes on Facebook and asks you to “like” them. But, the flip side of this equation is that the business never seems to understand that they need to do something to cause people to want to “like” them. And this is where Paul Wright comes in.

I asked Paul to be a podcast guest, first, because I felt he had a compelling story of going from the auto industry to helping companies brand themselves on social media; and second, from listening to his online radio program and learning ways to draw people to the things I was offering. The fact that he was far away in Canada and says “about” in a funny way was a secondary consideration, especially when you consider that all of my contact with the Denver based company revamping my website has occurred online (we talk via Skype to review progress on features, and I send payment through Paypal).

Paul is a contact that began on Twitter, moved to listening to his radio program, and then learning how to effectively use social media as well as finding apps that would help me get things done with a minimum of hair pulling. It was as simple as that.

For a good number of us what comes to mind when you mention social media is a sixteen year old communicating with their friends. But tweets and contact with Paul have demonstrated to me that it is much, much, more and provides a means for a person or company of any size to connect with a target market that really wants to like your product or news. Ashton Kutcher not withstanding (he has a huge following) I primarily use Twitter as an aggregator to bring me news from websites or topics I’m interested in that I don’t have time to go to on a daily basis. I’m just now branching out into making contacts and can truly say my eyes have been opened and I have met a wonderful and varied group of people while being able to promote my content.

So if you have a moment, listen to the podcast under “More Episodes”  Episode 003 and let Paul walk you through some things you can do right now to make your social media presence a lot more meaningful. Then, once you imagine the possibilities, check out his radio program Link through Social Media Tech and App Show every Thursday at 3 and 8 pm Eastern time. Can’t make those times? There’s an app for that! Just kidding, but you can listen “On Demand” through this link. Oh yes, and smile like I do when he says “about”.
