As follow-up to the previous post I ran into this video which highlights some of the characteristics of hoarding behavior. I thought it would be helpful to put a human face on the traits mentioned in the first post before we venture into things to do to help the hoarder.
I thought it instructive based on the information mentioned in the previous post that Maureen says “I’ve built a fortress around myself.” For her, collecting things serves as a bit of armor that protects her from people or some unknown “something” that we can only imagine. And yet, despite the stereotype, she is a very neat looking and generally friendly, put together person. And, Lloyd’s small progress indicates it is possible to help the hoarder beyond simply removing the items.
