We tend to limit ourselves to thinking that dreaming occurs only while we sleep, but we dream constantly in the waking state. Don’t believe me? Then what are “daydreams?” In the clinical sense our brainwaves slow and we enter the Theta brain state which is somewhere between actual sleep and full consciousness. In Theta is where we are most creative and subject to thought switching. We do this all the time and that is part of the reason some people say they get some of their best ideas while doing freeway driving or out running.
“The Secret” became a media sensation when it really was not a secret at all. It was simply the instruction to give your mind free reign to visualize the things you wanted and then let your subconscious work on how to make it happen. Some of us are just better at using this facility than others and is part of the reason I titled this blog “Coactive Dreams” because it means dreaming with a purpose. And, by dreaming with a purpose I am not talking about positive thinking or winning the lottery but consciously placing your focus on the things you want for your life. Notice I did not say “things you don’t want in your life” because that becomes your focus.
In an earlier post I asked you to think about where were you when you felt the most happy? What was your proudest moment and how did that feel? When did you feel safe and cared for and what was happening at the time. I would like you to go back to one of those times and really explore and enjoy how you felt at that moment. As you relive that moment, gently take one hand and stroke the other. Do this several times until you are able to call up one of those feelings every time you rub one hand over the other. Now, think of some goal you previously felt was out of reach and gently rub one hand over the other. What you accomplish is putting yourself into a dream state (not sleep) that allows your mind free reign to focus in a positive way to work on this situation and find a way to match those feelings to the situation at hand. Become your dreams…
