It happens to the best of us. You pick a career path only to later find it no longer provides what you were looking for. This is especially true for women. If you are female and wondered if you could run a business, Bonnie Frank thinks you can and in the current podcast episode tells you how she wants to help you.

I met Bonnie Frank of The women in Biz and was instantly drawn to both her energy and drive. She like a lot of women became disillusioned with a career path that seemed certain and then less certain. She never mentions it during our Skype chat but I’m certain went through a period of questioning herself especially when as she put it she got very little support in starting her business. But, this is where the drive kicked in and she went through that trial and error process that any entrepreneur trying to create something has to go through and found out she was good at blogging. Not only was she good but great in that she was able to translate doing it into producing enough income to match her previous salary.

Looking back over her own journey I think she realized that there were probably a good number of women just like her who wanted to strike out on their own but didn’t feel they had the skills or the know how to do it and began “The Women in Biz” website to provide coaching, tools and encouragement. Those are things that women and even men need to help in getting their footing when starting a new venture.

She welcomes men but women seem to be a focus for her because “I don’t know what it is Bonnie Frankin our society or culture but women put up their own roadblocks more frequently than men do.” That itself is unfortunate because if you are a homemaker there is skill in effectively running a household to make certain the kids are fed, bills are paid, and things get done to make the household run smoothly. The same goes for women in the workplace: You are good at what you do and people in the office depend on you to get stuff done that at your level makes the office function. And yet, when women consider striking out on their own there is a level of self doubt that seems to stop them.

I asked Bonnie to come on the show because she is a living, breathing example that you can shift your thinking; and yes, it is a little frightening at first but a degree of persistence and here I’m going to say the “N” word: “Networking” can provide the information and guidance you need to start your venture. Bonnie has made extensive use of social media and especially Periscope to grow her business and it does seem to be a great leveler in terms of broadcasting yourself and finding the tribe that may need your services.

So if you are thinking of starting a business but unsure about where to begin, listen to Bonnie’s story in the podcast, because she is a wealth of encouragement and insight. It’s all in how you decide to see it…
