Several people have sent me messages on the website and expressed surprise that all the photos on the blog were taken by me. I’m constantly taking pictures wherever I go… I guess as a way of capturing the thoughts that went through my head at the time.
The thing I like about photography is that it forces you to ask questions, things like “wonder how that would look if I did this or that?”, in addition to looking at every day things in a new light. And even better, you see something and an image pops into your head and you scramble to try to get the camera lens to reproduce that image or feeling. The following are a few shots of places you may or may not have seen before but now get a chance I hope to see in a new light. Take a moment as you view each one and just think about the thoughts that wander through your head as you view them.
I have taken tons of pictures at the downtown Landing by day and then decided to go at night just to see how different the night environment would look. One of the downtown bridges at night. It almost seems to float above the water.

Further down from the Landing there is a running man statue which may be familiar to some and just south of that is this public art that I think is rather recent. It is metal and I liked the gleam the polished metal gave off in the night light. I took this picture with no flash and just the street lights and was surprised at the sparkle it gave off. It is almost like a diamond.

Even further down from the public art is a row of expensive condos which are part of the drive to lure people back downtown and close to the St. Johns River. There is something both beautiful and sad about this next photo. It is a nice tropical scene and off in the distance you see this lone figure walking alone into the night.

Frequently I like to take close-up or Macro photos of an object. Standing back you see the object in it’s context with all it’s surroundings. By zooming in you are forced to look at all the details that make up that one thing. I saw this flower in Charleston S.C. and what struck me was that you normally see it in red. Seeing it in white with just that shot of red at the center makes it very different from what you usually see and oddly beautiful, without the context of the rundown office building it grew next to.

Another macro shot. The irregular design makes it almost art or even a fractal creation with strange green colors
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal This was taken three inches above the top of a corn plant on my back yard pergola. If I had not told you what it was you would have wondered now wouldn’t you?

You find the strangest thing in the oddest places. This shot reminds me of the entrance to some chapel or God walking toward you. Yet this was taken at Ft. Clinch in Fernandina Beach FL. It’s an armory and yet there is this wonderful scene and the light hits perfectly to change the look.

Another Macro shot that illustrates what I mean about looking closely at an object. This is the center of a bromeliad plant
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromeliad. In the middle of the plant are these teeny tiny little buds that give you the impression of worlds within worlds.

And finally, two friends meet in the park. Wonder which friends I’m talking about?

And there you have it. Without even knowing it you have now experienced stress reduction. For a brief moment your mind was allowed to wander and the load was lifted. If you have enjoyed this moment of relaxation, share it with a friend.
Enjoy your day… and take a moment to really look at things!
Beautiful photography Cherrie! I got lost in the photos of the two flowers, so in deed I feel more relaxed!
That was a great trick and I did feel relaxed after viewing. Thanks!
Me too!!
i really did feel relaxed afterwards!
