Dr. Zadra is a dreamer on a mission. Literally. For someone who is fascinated by dreams and sleep, his waking hours seem to be filled with activity. Once we were able to sync our calendars, I found him full of information, funny, and surprisingly easy to talk to.

I think we all understand that we need sleep but often think it is something we can move around or do without. To that end we push forward to develop that new product or come up with a great idea on the assumption that sleep is a hindrance. What Dr. Zadra points 3Ww6rQi6_400x400out is that far from being a hindrance, it is a necessary part of the process that helps our brain find the very thing we pushing so hard to do. These are all things he studies at his clinic.

I understood that sleep or dreams could help in generating ideas but what surprised me was the fact that it could also aid in creating muscle memory, something key in athletic performance. In other words: want to get good at cycling, weightlifting or some other sport? Sleep and then dream.

He is even studying if men and women dream differently and how that affects their waking hours. Deep stuff! But, the most important aspect of his research offers insight for employers that making certain employees are rested and therefore have a chance to dream is good for the bottom line. Think about it, if workers are generating great products or ideas walking around sleep deprived, we can only begin to imagine what they would come up with given a chance to consolidate information while sleeping and then dreaming.

If you ever doubted the benefit of sleep, listening to Dr. Zadra explain all the implications of sleep and dreams will instantly remove them. You will learn that far from being useless activities they offer a chance to dive into the realm of the possible.
