I have been seeing a lot of couples and individuals in counseling on the verge of break-up lately. For some there is the sad realization that the relationship cannot be saved and that brought to mind this song because it covers the range of emotions that I have witnessed. I also like the hopeful way the song ends as each attempts to rebuild what is broken, that after all the upheaval and regret, each person says “I have faith in me…”
Once the healing has been allowed to take place, you do have to have faith that you can survive. And, you will!
I noticed around the first of the year people blogging about relationships ending… I was one of them but chose not to blog about it… Even tho its disappointing and sad, it is part of life.. It takes courage to end a relationship what would be worse is to keep the relationship going just for the sake of having one.
Chrissy,
I think that so many people are under stress right now and relationships are the casualty. In better times people are more willing to hold on but stress puts a lot of pressure on relationships that may be hanging by a thread. I attempt to help people understand those stresses and then give them tools to try to negotiate acceptable alternatives. This song speaks to when things have progressed beyond the negotiation stage. On all sides there is regret and a mourning for what might have been. And then, there is the stark realization that they are once again on their own again…
