Now that all the excitement of a new year has subsided, we are faced with walking into all the unknowns that come with resetting the clock on that thing that is our future. Each of us faces our own special challenges as we attempt to make sense of all the nonsense we encounter on a day to day basis. And yet, I’m here to tell you I do understand how the load can get heavy at times.

There are so many things that seem to conspire to keep you from the goals that you have set for yourself, but faith and determination are wonderful things. They are something we all have but sometimes don’t use to the full extent we should. Faith is the thing that gives us hope and determination is what keeps us on the path to where we want to go.

And so, when you find yourself at a crossroads and wondering which road you should take, draw on those two characters. Decide where it is you want to go and take a moment to see, feel and taste it. Take in the full extent of your dreamed outcome to make certain it is fixed in your mind. Then, begin to break that dream down into smaller steps that you can take that will guide you when the going gets tough. I say that because trying to do everything at once is a recipe for becoming overwhelmed. Smaller steps give you a sense of accomplishment while building your faith that the entire task is doable.

And now comes the most important part: As Winston Churchill put it “Never, never give up.” Accept that there will be days when you will need to put the burden down and rest for a bit, and believe me they will happen. Building in those days causes you to step back and reassess what is working and what needs to be changed rather than using denial which only fools you for the moment but never fools the situation. And then strike out again with new determination based on the changes you have made.

I’m always reminded of the Rocky Mountain as a good example of persistence. Something as simple as the drip, drip, drip of water hollowed out those canyons. There are multiple slopes showing where water flowed one way and then another but never stopped until it had burrowed through solid rock. Never, never give up! Try something one way and maybe another but make up your mind that you have seen it, smelled it, and tasted it in your mind’s eye and know it is possible. Never, never give up!

Tell those fears and forces that they will just have to bow to your will, because you have made up your mind and begun to take action. Never, never give up!
