know it has happened to each and everyone of you reading this blog: You needed some new device, bought it, the product arrived and seemed to work well… and then something happened! It is at this point that your life enters Customer Service hell because not only is the product not working as it should, the person on the other end of the phone/email either does not seem to care, does not understand, is also not having a good day, or an endless list of other things that prevent you getting what you paid for.

Customer service where people stand by the product they are selling has gone the way of the DoDo Bird. It seems that all most companies want to do is sell you something and then “Buddie you are on your own!”

I’ll start my story appropriately and say it was a dark and stormy night as I was telling a friend about all the devices I had on my office desk and how it was so cluttered with USB cables I almost hated to have clients come in and sit down. The night grew stormier still as I pointed out sometimes using one device meant I had to sacrifice another (as in all the USB ports are taken and I need something on the external hard drive. Do I sacrifice the printer to the productivity god in order to use the external hard drive?). And, faster than you could say “Bob’s your uncle” (I love that English expression) he suggested I get a USB hub that would allow me to have all my devices connected at once.

I know the world is divided into Ebay and Amazon people, and I will confess that I am an Amazon person so this is where I went to look for the device that would solve my problems. After the usual research I ordered a hub that looked promising and sat back to wait for the it to arrive.

My uncle Bob, who used to be a long lost relative, was now to my surprise becoming a frequently mentioned character because in no time the hub arrived. Despite my dread that it would not work, once plugged in the hub promptly began working and my sea of cables were now moved to one place conveniently out of sight. My desk appeared as it once had all organized and inviting. I was very pleased and thought no more about it.

A few days later I received a very nice personal email from Plugable Technologies thanking me for my purchase and telling me to feel free to contact them if there were any problems or questions. because they wanted to make certain I was a happy customer. I checked online and found out my experience was not an isolated instance but that they “Bob’s your uncled” everybody to deliver, answer questions, or replace their products.

Ladies and gentleman the hub is a dream in that I no longer have to make sacrifices to the productivity god, there is no loss of power by having everything connected, and my faith has been restored that there are companies out there who want to make money but also are proud of the product they sell. Proud to the point of following up with customers to make certain they had and continue to have a good experience.

So if you are drowning in a sea of cables like I was, follow this link to Plugable Techologies and give them the once over. They prevent a lot of headaches and really stand behind their products. Oh yes, I threw in a picture of my dog sleeping as a prop illustrating “no worries” and what the heck, she’s cute!
