Let me use an example that everyone can identify with. Have you ever wanted something that was not easy to acquire and you thought about it day and night. It haunted every waking hour and your mind focused on it at every turn. And then one day, sort of out of the blue a thought came to you that would solve the problem and made it seem so easy you asked yourself why you had not thought of it earlier. The subconscious mind is a huge search engine that stores everything we encounter or experience and once we direct its focus it does not question if getting this thing is possible, it simply begins to search it’s data banks to make it happen. The mind does not know “difficult” it only works with “how.” It is our conscious mind that adds in a layer of fear or doubt.
Directed focus is the key that unlocks this subconscious power and allows our minds to freely function. I go back to the mother I mentioned in Part I who saw her baby trapped under the car and all she knew was that she had to find some means of getting the baby out. Seeing no other means, her mind simply said “lift the car” and so she did. And for the religious among us I refer you to Mark 11:23 “Therefore I tell you, all things whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received them, and you shall have them.”

This untapped power I mention is like a muscle that has to be exercised or used with enough regularity in order for it to grow in strength and power. But for many of us our credit cards or check books have been allowed to replace working that muscle. People are frightened and confused right now because the checkbook foundations we established for ourselves have been shaken or crumbled completely. But what we have to admit is that our own personal foundation was really built on pretty much doing what we saw our friends, the guy down the street, or even Paris Hilton do. If all those people I mentioned were doing it, then it must be ok for you to go in that direction as well. And now we find that your neighbor and all the experts were no smarter than you.
And so we find ourselves forced to come back to the resources of our original selves, recognizing that there is a power that flows through us to shape our destiny. I can say that with such certainty because I know directed focus works. Two years ago I set a goal for myself to get out of debt. Every time I sat down to pay the bills I allowed my subconscious free reign to experience how good it felt to be debt free. I sent that message at every opportunity and to my amazement money came from everywhere. I did not go without but found I paid a lot less attention to what my neighbor was doing. And when I looked around and the debts that held me had been forced to let go. It was at this point I started directing my focus to other areas of my life with similar success.

So the question you have to ask yourself is: Are you willing to develop that power, to tap into that flow, and once again gain control of your life? For those who answered yes, part III will begin us on that journey.
