I was doing some research at the library and stumbled upon one of my favorite documentaries: “The Triumph of the Nerds”. It chronicles the development of the wonderful instrument you are using right now to read this post… the personal computer!
Jobs was the idea man and Wozniak (Woz) was the self taught engineer. They started out
wanting to impress their friends and Jobs got the idea to create a packaged computer. At this point we need to go back in time and remember that IBM was king and computers were huge machines that took up whole rooms. Jobs wanted to create a packaged computer that was smaller and could be sold to their friends. He asked Woz to see if he could miniaturize the circuitry that would allow them to create this small size computer. And this is where the story really gets interesting, Woz went off to work on it and a few months later returned to say he had done it!
Woz didn’t know it was impossible and no one had told him that IBM had thousands of engineers working on the idea and said it could not be done. He started out with a vision and kept himself open to the idea that anything was possible.
If we tell
ourselves we cannot do something, then we won’t. Almost 80% of our brain is devoted to processing images, and that is a lot of processing power! If we give ourselves the image of success then that is what we get. The mind will find a way! But, if we feed ourselves the image of defeat then that is what we will get as well.
So when I tell you to create an image for yourself and just start, I mean it literally! The image that you have created for yourself will call into action every cell of your being and just starting brings in the help of the universe.
The world was revolutionized because “Woz didn’t know it was impossible.”
Dear Cherrie, Love this post ! I own two Apple computers and I think Steve Jobs is really a genius !
I wish you'd post a picture of one of his (and Woz's) machines as well as a PC (Bill Gates doesn't need advertizing any more than Steve Jobs, n'est-ce pas ?)
One more word : I love Woz's picture too ! His face reminds me of those benevolent "flower people" of my younger days…
JLBO,
I too love Woz! For me he is this gentle soul with a wonderful mind. I have to look to see if I can find some pictures of their original computer. What is shown in the documentary is VERY basic… crude looking in relation to what we have now but does give an idea of how they built on the concept.
