I write this with true sadness despite the fact that the person mourned I’ve never met. Aaron Swartz died today and for me a bright light has gone out

Us mere mortals often joke about the geeks among us, but stop for a moment. True they may see things in the world we simply do not see and of course that makes them different. But, it is a difference we should all celebrate because they are the ones who look into the matrix and understand the code. They are the ones who have given us the internet and countless other digital inventions. They are the ones who took the risks when everyone (us mere mortals) was saying it couldn’t be done.

I never knew Aaron Swartz, but I felt his presence. His hand guides a good deal of what I do online and need I say he singlehandedly worked to make understanding copyright law cool. His loss means that we are the lesser because the brain that could understand what a lot of us take for granted has left us and I mourn his passing

I end by saying, rest now my friend. Candles that burn brightly sometimes quickly flicker, but what came from your light will continue to guide us, and you will not be forgotten!
