I resisted using Google Plus for the longest time, and then I tried the features and became a fan of the platform. This podcast episode walks you through some of the features that won me over.
I stand before you a changed person. I’m one of those people who holds back a little, tracks a new idea or platform like a hunter after prey looking for marks in the sand that said something passed this way. I like taking my time to make up my mind. I guess you could say I have done all that regarding Google Plus and came away a smiling happy camper who really likes the platform.
After getting a little push from Google when they combined my accounts, I slowly stuck my toe into the water and it didn’t feel that bad. In fact, it felt pretty nice. The podcast walks you through some of the uses I’ve found for the most popular features and how they helped me develop more content for the other platforms.
Features like:
Communities Which allow you to rapidly connect with others in your area of interest and also reduce the learning curve.
Hangouts: A video podcast tool that instantly gets you on YouTube and can be converted into an audio podcast as well. Instructions to use it are all over the net. Just Google it.
Ripple: That allows you to literally watch an update in real time spread through your circles.
I know you have probably heard the buzz that the place was a wasteland with nothing but all tech all the time, but I have found it much more. I discovered people posting photos, quotes, and all manner of things. It’s not Facebook and I’m glad they stopped trying to be. And, I didn’t have to twist and turn to say things in 140 characters.
I have no plans to give up my other social media platforms because each serves a very useful purpose for me and I have interests and people on each that I truly enjoy. But as I said earlier I can now add Google Plus to the list of platforms that have captured my imagination and provided me tools to make things I can begin to share on all the others. Resistance truly is futile, but in a good way.
